This initiative is a part of broader efforts under the PM E-Drive scheme, which “aims to build a nationwide EV-ready ecosystem to enable cleaner transport and reduce India’s dependency on fossil fuels”.

In a move to strengthen India’s electric mobility infrastructure, the Union government has initiated plans to develop an all-in-one “Super App”, aimed at enhancing the experience for electric vehicle (EV) users nationwide.

As per a press release by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is being considered as the nodal agency for demand aggregation and for the development of this “unified digital Super App”.

Key features of the Super App

The proposed app will serve as a centralised platform offering a range of essential services to EV users, including:

  • Real-time booking of charging slots.
  • Integrated digital payment systems.
  • Live updates on charger availability.
  • Dashboards to monitor national deployment progress under the PM E-Drive scheme.

In addition, BHEL will also collaborate with various state governments and central ministries to assess and coordinate proposals for the installation of charging stations across the country.

This initiative is a part of broader efforts under the PM E-Drive scheme, which “aims to build a nationwide EV-ready ecosystem to enable cleaner transport and reduce India’s dependency on fossil fuels”.

Key highlights of the PM E-Drive scheme

  • The scheme has a total financial allocation of ₹2,000 crore.
  • It will support the installation of around 72,000 public EV charging stations nationwide.
  • The scheme plans to deploy these stations along 50 national highway corridors and at high-traffic locations, including metro cities, railway stations, airports, petrol pumps, state highways and toll plazas.

“The PM E-Drive scheme is a transformative initiative aimed at giving our citizens access to clean, affordable, and convenient mobility options,” said Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. “We are not just building infrastructure; we are building the foundation for energy security and green economic growth.”
